Assistant Professor Positions in Economics and Education
Teachers College, Columbia University

Position: The program in Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University (TC) seeks to hire a faculty member with expertise in the Economics of Education at the assistant professor (tenure-track) level. We are interested in promising early and established mid-career scholars who wish to work in an engaging academic, professional, and social environment, with world-class students in a world-class city and who have a record of, or potential for contributing to TC’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through scholarship, teaching and/or service. While research focus is flexible, we are particularly interested in candidates whose work examines issues of economic, racial, and/or gender inequality in the context of education. To complement strengths of the existing program faculty, we are seeking scholars whose work is set in the context of PK-12 and/or international education, and/or who can bring expertise in behavioral economics and/or experimental designs.

Responsibilities: Our faculty maintain an active research and publications profile; policy work and public engagement are also encouraged. Faculty normally teach four graduate courses per year in economics of education, including core methodological and/or foundational courses as well as substantive courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. As a small program, all faculty advise masters and doctoral students, and participate in program administration and leadership activities. Faculty work collegially with students and faculty from EPSA, TC, and the broader Columbia community to build upon common research and intellectual interests.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in economics, public policy, or a closely related field with a demonstrated concentration in economics of education; evidence of scholarly accomplishments and likelihood of future productivity; promise or history of external research support. Demonstrated research background and/or policy involvement in education, ability to communicate across disciplinary boundaries and outside academe, and a demonstrated commitment to broadening diversity within the field will also be considered in the review process. Applicants who have experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas.

Application deadline: Application review will begin November 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. The start date for these positions is September 1, 2023.
